What’s so Special about Merino Wool?
October 18, 2009 by admin
Why does everyone make such a big deal of the fact that Ugg boots are made from Merino wool? Because Merino is some of the finest wool produced anywhere in the world. It is the softest, most luxurious wool available.
Merino is the breed of sheep from which Merino wool comes from. Makes sense, right? Merino wool is exceedingly fine, and this time I mean in thickness, not quality. In fact, it is so fine that it takes three to four wool fibers to equal the dimension of one human hair. Now that’s fine. Not to worry, though. Merino sheep produce plenty of wool to go around. In just one year, one Merino sheep can produce enough wool to reach 5,500 miles. Impressive, isn’t it? And they’re so cute, too!
That’s not all that’s special about Merino wool, however. Merino wool is one of the best insulators ever created by man or nature. It’s designed to keep the body at its optimal temperature, so in the case of Ugg boots, that means your feet are never too cold and never too hot when you’re wearing them. Your feet stay nice and dry, too, because wool has the power to wick moisture away from your skin and hold it back. Even if you tend to have sweaty feet, your tootsies will stay dry and comfy when you’re wearing your Ugg boots or slippers.
If you’ve thought about buying some of those Ugg lookalikes from cheaper sources, remember that you’ll be missing out on one of the best parts if your boots are not made from Merino wool. One of the nicest things about Uggs is their ability to keep your feet snuggled in comfort, wrapping them in luxurious softness while keeping them dry and toasty. And that’s the truth. Would I pull the wool over your eyes? No, I wouldn’t, but some of those manufacturers who sell inferior Ugg knockoffs would, so make sure your getting the genuine article when you buy your Uggs.
